Global "Healthy Habits" campaign in Saudi Arabia

  02/04/2024

The Saudi government has started a campaign to raise awareness about a change in eating practices. Health risks increase in citizens. Analyzing the university population, they discovered a bad practice of habits and consumption of healthy foods, being little varied and of low nutritional quality.

Statistics show that 57.89% consume high amounts of sweets, 45.61% fats, as well as fast and ultra-processed foods (45.61%); reducing the intake of fruits and vegetables by 71.93%.

The government launched a plan that includes primary care and breastfeeding, promoting breast milk. In school-age children and adolescents, they encourage spaces for greater physical activity and the consumption of healthy foods in schools.

Taxes have been increased on processed foods and reduced on the healthiest foods, which are recognized by the "label law" on products.

Obesity is addressed by the Ministry of Health in all aspects, from psychological, food and physical activity, constantly launching global awareness communication campaigns that promote physical activity and fitness in general, in addition to food.
